Qatar Reiterates Firm Position on Just Palestinian Cause, Palestinian People's Legitimate Rights

The State of Qatar reiterated its firm position on the justice of the Palestinian cause and the Palestinian people's legitimate rights, particularly their right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent, viable Palestinian state on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

This came in the State of Qatar's statement delivered by HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the European headquarters of the United Nations in Geneva Dr. Hind Abdulrahman Al Muftah, during the general debate on the situation of human rights in Palestine and other occupied Arab territories within the framework of the 52nd session of the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC).

Her Excellency condemned Israel's massive and systematic attacks, crimes and violations against the Palestinian people for decades during which Israel, the occupying power, sought to consolidate its settlement and racist policies, and provide the appropriate environment for their implementation by the confiscation of Palestinian property, demolition of their homes and forced displacement, the protection of extremist settlers, attempts to Judaize and change the identity and demographic composition of the city of Jerusalem, and the violation of the sanctity of the holy Al Aqsa Mosque, which constitutes a clear violation of international laws.

Her Excellency strongly lambasted the statements made by Israeli officials from time to time, the latest of which were the statements of the Israeli Minister of Finance, in which he denied the existence of the Palestinian people and the Palestinian state by using a map of Israel that includes the borders of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the occupied Palestinian territories in a flagrant violation of international norms and covenants. Her Excellency blasted the statements as an explicit expression of the racist and extremist Israeli plans and policies that Israel believes in and seeks to achieve, which will ultimately lead to the destruction of the two-state solution and the failure of the future of the peace process and efforts to reach a just, lasting and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian cause.

Her Excellency called on the international community to assume its legal and moral responsibilities by obliging Israel to respect the resolutions of international legitimacy, protect the Palestinians, end the occupation of all Arab lands, stop settlement policies, lift the unjust siege on the Gaza Strip, and solve the refugee problem fairly and in accordance with UN resolutions.

Her Excellency stressed the importance of ending impunity and ensuring accountability for all those responsible for the violations committed against the Palestinian people.
