Geneva tourist attractions and sights

The Geneva water fountain (jet d'eau de Genève)

We Cannot talk about Geneva without mentioning the famous Geneva water fountain on the Geneva Lake, which pumps out water into the air to the height of 140 meters.

Lake Geneva is the largest lake in western Europe, it covers an an area of approximately 580 square kilometers. About 345 square kilometers  of the lake’s area are Swiss and 235 square kilometers   are French. On 25 August 2016, the fountain celebrated its 125th anniversary.

Broken Chair

It is a monumental sculpture in wood by the Swiss artist Daniel Berset, constructed by the carpenter Louis Genève. It is constructed of 5.5 tons of wood and is 12 meters  high. It symbolizes opposition to land mines and cluster bombs.

Flower Clock

Dominating the eastern bank, the giant Flower Clock in the English Garden is a tribute to Geneva's watch industry, harmonizing Swiss ingenuity with the floral bounties of nature. Tourists go to areas surrounding the Flower Clock with a desire to relax. Artstic and cultural displays are sometimes organized in this place

   

The Rhone

The Rhône is one of famous tourist attractions in Geneva. With a short boat ride on the Rhône, tourists can enjoy the splendid landscape surrounding the river.

Manor

One of the largest store chain in Switzerland with everything you need under one roof from electronics to cosmetics. The ground floor food market is a popular lunch spot for people on the go, especially those who love Swiss chocolates.

Geneva’s old town Market (Molard Square)

It is the most famous shopping destination in the very heart of Geneva's city center. Along “la Confederation” Street, there are several luxury stores and kiosks . Not far from this square, there are Globus and Bongénie markets which are brand's flagship Geneva stores.

Centre  Chavannes-de-Bogis

Although it is located on the outskirts of Geneva , it is different from the other shopping centers because there are mostly some fashion brands which you will not find elsewhere. The Centre offers entertainment for children, which makes of it a favorite destination for many tourists.

Public parks

Green spaces and public parks are everywhere in Geneva, for example: the Bastion Park in the very heart of the city which includes statues of historical figures from Switzerland and abroad.

There is also the famous "Botanic Garden" in Geneva which is located on the north side of Lake Geneva. It was founded in 1904 on an area of 28 hectares, is adjacent to  the park of the United Nations Office at Geneva and ranks as one of the five most important in the world.
