In his statement on 09.07.2017 at the Enhanced Interactive Dialogue on the Sudan under agenda item 10 of the 41st Session of the Human Rights Council, HE Ali Khalfan Al Mansouri, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva welcomed the interactive dialogue on the Sudan, expressing hope that it would contribute to the promotion and protection of human rights in the country.
HE expressed the State of Qatar’s satisfaction with the agreement reached by the Transitional Military Council and the Forces of Freedom and Change in the brotherly Sudan regarding the formation of the sovereign council and the establishment of a civil government.
HE Ambassador also expressed the State of Qatar’s hope that the agreement will lead to the realization of the Sudanese people and their just demands for freedom, peace and justice, stressing its firm position in support of the unity, stability and sovereignty of Sudan.
HE Ambassador Ali Khalfan Al Mansouri said that the Qatari delegation had taken note of the progress made with regard to progress made to the opening of an OHCHR country office in the Sudan, and underlined the importance of the establishment of this office, as stipulated in Council resolution 39/22.
He explained that given the challenges facing the Sudan at this critical junction in its history, the establishment of such an office would play an important role in improving the human rights situation in the Sudan, including through the provision of technical assistance and capacity-building to all actors in the Sudan, which will in turn reflect in the realization of stability, achievement of social peace and justice and the consolidation of the rule of law.
HE Ali Khalfan Al Mansouri reaffirmed the State of Qatar’s commitment to promoting and protecting human rights in the Sudan, based on its firm belief that the brotherly Sudanese people deserve sustainable peace, stability and development.
