Qatar Reaffirms Promotion, Protection of Children's Rights As Priority in Development Plan

The State of Qatar reaffirmed that it attaches great importance to the promotion and protection of children's rights, and considers it a priority in its development plan that relies primarily on investment in human capital.

On this basis, the State of Qatar asserted its keenness to provide the necessary infrastructure and a healthy environment to ensure the proper development of all children on its soil.

This came in the speech of the State of Qatar, during the annual debate on the rights of the child in the Human Rights Council, which was delivered by Third Secretary of the Permanent Mission of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Office in Geneva Talal Al Naama.

Talal Al Naama said that the State of Qatar believes that providing a safe and clean environment is a prerequisite for children to grow and enjoy their rights, pointing out that adopting an approach that addresses the dimensions of a healthy environment is extremely important to realize the enjoyment of human rights, achieving well-being, and making the planet sustainable.

Some of the models that reflect what the State of Qatar has done and is still doing to provide a healthy environment for the child are its efforts to address the negative effects of climate change and air pollution, he added.

In this regard, he stressed that air pollutants are monitored in government schools to prevent their effects, in addition to the integration of the subject of environmental education into the school curricula for children, and the allocation of a national environment day to educate children about environmental issues and encourage their participation in addressing them.

Al Naama said that the State of Qatar continues its efforts at the international level in providing development assistance to support developing countries affected by environmental disasters and climate changes.

He pointed out that Qatar directed in this regard an appreciated part of this assistance to provide basic services for children in vital fields such as education, health, and others.

He added that the "Educate a Child" program, affiliated to Qatar's Education Above All Foundation, supported projects that provide quality education opportunities for children who were deprived of this right due to armed conflicts and natural disasters such as floods and others.
