The Permanent Mission of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Office in Geneva organized on 26 February 2018, in cooperation with the Permanent Mission of Japan in Geneva, a side event to the 37th Session of the Human Rights Council, under the title: “Hosting Mega Sport events: Strengthen the respect of Human Rights”
H.E.Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, together with H.E. Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, ILO Director-General, the Secretary General of Qatar Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy, Deputy High Commissioner for Human Rights and a representative of the International Federation of Building and Wood Worker, participated in the event.
The side event which was very well attended, highlighted challenges and good practices related to the promotion and protection of human rights when hosting major sporting events by reviewing the contributions of host countries and disseminating practical ideas and recommendations on the contribution of Mega sport events in the promotion and protection of human rights.
