Qatar Affirms Interest Embodied in Adoption of National Policies, Legislation to Empower Women

The State of Qatar affirmed that women have received attention, embodied in the adoption of national policies and legislation that empower them, as well as build and strengthen their capabilities by providing education and training opportunities and public jobs, including leadership positions in Qatar.

Qatar also emphasized its interest to consider women's rights in all social and economic development strategies, including those related to environment and climate change.

This came in the State of Qatar's statement, which was delivered by Second Secretary of the Human Rights Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ahmed Abdulaziz Al Malki Al Jahni, before the Human Rights Council in its 50th session (HRC50). Al Jahni's speech was delivered during the first session of the annual full-day discussion panel on the human rights of women under the title 'Exploring the Nexus Between Climate Change and Violence Against Women and Girls Through a Human Rights Lens.'
In regard to empowering women within the context of climate change, Al Jahni emphasized the State of Qatar's keenness to adopt an integrated approach at the national level to preserve the environment and address climate change, which takes into account the need for environmental sustainability and the preservation of the rights of current and future generations.
The State of Qatar has placed great emphasis on environment and climate change in its Qatar National Vision 2030, which has made the preservation and development of environment one of the four main pillars of this vision, he noted.
The State of Qatar has recently created the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, which is concerned with implementing comprehensive and integrated policies and programs that support human rights and build resilience, he said, adding that Qatar has also launched a national strategy for the environment and climate change, which aims to balance the need to work in the field of climate change and environmental protection, and the need to promote sustainable social and economic development.
