Qatar Confirms Its Unflagging Efforts To Facilitate Comprehensive Political Consensus in Afghanistan

The state of Qatar confirmed its firm position to provide aid to the Afghani people and support their right to live in dignity and achieve their aspirations for sustainable peace, security, development and build the state of law and institutions. The state of Qatar also confirmed the continuation of its unflagging efforts dedicated to facilitating a comprehensive political consensus that achieves security and stability in Afghanistan and the region.

This came in the statement of the State of Qatar delivered by Second Secretary of the Permanent Mission of the State of Qatar to the United Nations office in Geneva Talal Al Naama, before the 50th session of the Human Rights Council, during the interactive dialogue on the oral update of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights on the situation of human rights in Afghanistan.

Al Naama expressed Qatar's concern over the deteriorating humanitarian and economic situation, reiterating Qatar's call to the international community to exert intensive efforts to support activities related to the humanitarian and relief response, particularly at this critical stage the Afghan people are going through.

He noted that the long suffering of the Afghani people is due to wars, calling for the need to avoid further suffering and enable them to counter the economic, development, social and security challenges, in addition to safeguarding the accomplishments that have been made during the past decades, especially women and girls equal access to education.

He also called for addressing the obstacles arising from monetary crisis, in addition to the facilitation of humanitarian funding. He reiterated that the State of Qatar welcomes the efforts aimed at reallocating part of the funds in the Trust Fund for the Reconstruction of Afghanistan, and the steps taken towards activating the Humanitarian Exchange Fund.
