Qatar Renews Condemnation of Burning Quran in Some Western Countries

The State of Qatar has renewed its deep dissatisfaction and strong condemnation of the recent incidents of burning the copies of the Holy Quran in some Western countries, as well as of all hate speech and acts of intolerance that would fuel feelings of hostility and violence against others, stressing what the High Commissioner for Human Rights said about the seriousness of these deliberate provocations. Qatar also called on the governments of the concerned countries to take effective measures to prevent their recurrence, and to hold those responsible accountable, especially since these actions deliberately provoke Muslims' feelings, disrespect their sanctities, and incite violence against them.
This came in the statement of the State of Qatar delivered by HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations in Geneva Dr. Hind Abdulrahman Al Muftah, during her participation in the general debate on the oral update of the High Commissioner for Human Rights within the framework of the 52nd session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva.
Her Excellency referred to the proceeding of the 5th UN Conference of the Least Developed Countries (LDC5), which is successfully taking place in Doha, expressing her hope that the period following the conference will witness directing efforts towards implementing the Doha Programme of Action (DPoA) for the Decade 2022-2031, in a way that attends to the aspirations of LDCs and meets their needs and priorities towards achieving development.
Her Excellency noted the State of Qatar's announcement of providing a USD 60 million as financial contribution to support the implementation of the activities of the DPoA and to build the resilience of these countries.
HE Dr. Al Muftah pointed to the opening of the United Nations House in Doha, on the sidelines of the LDC5, which includes representative offices of a number of international organizations and United Nations agencies, which will enhance their ability to implement their regional and international activities and programmes.
HE the Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar in Geneva pointed out that the brotherly Syrian people is going through rough times as a result of the earthquake, which caused massive loss of life and property, in addition to the continued gross violations of human rights, the deterioration of the humanitarian situation and the Syrian regime's insistence on the military solution.
It called on the international community to continue to assist and protect the Syrian people, and to ensure accountability for those responsible for the violations and crimes committed against them.
Furthermore, Her Excellency expressed the State of Qatar's strong condemnation of the increase in crimes and grave violations committed by the Israeli forces and extremist Israeli settlers against the brotherly Palestinian people, stressing the need for the international community to shoulder its responsibilities by taking the necessary measures to expand and activate protection and accountability mechanisms for Israeli officials, and to provide protection for the Palestinians and ensure their rights.
