The State of Qatar has thanked Mr. Michael Lynk for his report, welcomed the conclusions and recommendations contained therein, and has condemned the Israeli authorities' insistence on not allowing him access to the occupied Palestinian territories to discharge his mandate.
This came in a statement delivered on behalf of the State of Qatar by Ms. Maha AL-MOADHADI, Second Secretary at the Permanent Mission of the State of Qatar in Geneva during the interactive dialogue with the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian Territory occupied since 1967 under agenda Item 7.
Ms. AL-MOADHADI has said the report clearly indicates that the Palestinian people, who have been under occupation for 51 years, continue to live under injustice and harsh reality as a result of Israel’s gross violations of human rights, war crimes, crimes against humanity, killing of Palestinian civilians, the destruction of property, plundering and exploitation of natural resources. She has added that Israel also imposes on the Palestinian people a policy of collective punishment, an unjust siege on the Gaza Strip, and denies them access to basic services in flagrant violation of all relevant international laws, conventions and resolutions.
The representative of the State of Qatar has recalled that the international community has repeatedly emphasized that Israeli settlements constitute a flagrant violation of the Fourth Geneva Convention of 1949 and are also regarded as war crime under the Rome Statute of 1998. She has also said that the continuation of the Israeli Government's policies, settlement activities and its support for acts of violence perpetrated by extremist settlers against the Palestinians is also a proof of Israel's lack of faith in the two-state solution.
Ms. AL-MOADHADI has expressed Qatar's agreement with the Special Rapporteur that all measures taken by the Israeli authorities to alter the geographical and demographic character of the occupied State of Palestine, including Jerusalem, are deemed invalid, have no legal basis and constitute a flagrant violation of international laws and conventions.
In conclusion, she has called on the international community to refrain from applying double standards and act, both in word and deed, to compel Israel, the occupying Power, to implement its obligations under international law, to end the occupation and to hold Israeli officials and leaders accountable for the violations and crimes committed against the Palestinian people before International Criminal Justice.
