The State of Qatar is keen on enhancing international development and humanitarian cooperation with many countries of the world, especially in times of crises and disasters to alleviate the suffering of those affected and to enhance their coping and resilience capabilities.
This came in the statement of the State of Qatar delivered by HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Office in Geneva Dr. Hind Abdulrahman Al Muftah during the interactive dialogue on the annual report of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, within the framework of the 53rd session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva.
Her Excellency said that the State of Qatar has been working on strengthening cooperation with international organizations in various fields, including human rights. Since 2009, it has been hosting the UN Human Rights Training and Documentation Centre, she said, referring to the opening of the United Nations House, which includes a number of the organization's offices in Doha. She also noted the continuation of cooperation with the Human Rights Council, receiving the holders of special procedures within the framework of the open invitation submitted by the state, and submitting periodic reports regularly to the human rights treaty bodies to which Qatar is party.
Her Excellency stressed that the failure of the Syrian regime to cooperate effectively and seriously with the United Nations human rights mechanisms comes within the context of its lack of faith and unwillingness to reach a political solution based on the full implementation of Resolution 2254 to achieve the legitimate aspirations of the Syrian people, stressing the importance of establishing a new international institution to determine the fate of the missing persons, their whereabouts and help their families, along with the need for all concerned parties to cooperate with this institution, given that this issue is humanitarian and ethical in the first place.
She renewed Qatar's strong condemnation of the grave violations by the Israeli occupation forces and the crimes they commit against the Palestinian people as well as the continuation of the aggression against Palestinian cities and regions that led to fallen martyrs and injured, calling on the international community to act urgently to provide the necessary protection for the Palestinian people, obligate Israel to stop its flagrant violations of international law, and compel it to respect the resolutions of international legitimacy.
