The State of Qatar underscores the importance of regional and international concerted efforts to find a just solution to the Syrian crisis

The State of Qatar underscored the importance of concerted efforts at the regional and global levels to find a just solution to the Syrian crisis in accordance with Geneva I and full implementation of the UN Security Council resolution 2254 to put an end to the suffering of Syrian people, achieve their legitimate aspirations, ensure safe, dignified, and voluntary return of refugees, as well as safeguard Syria's unity and territorial integrity.
This came in the State of Qatar's statement delivered by the third secretary of the permanent delegation of the State of Qatar to the United Nations office in Geneva Abdulla Ali Bahzad during the interactive dialogue with the Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Syrian Arab Republic before the 53rd session of Human Rights Council.
Bahzad emphasized that the humanitarian, the economic, social, security and political crises Syrian people have been facing for more than 12 years cannot persist without end, stressing that the grave violations and crimes being perpetrated against them, especially by the Syrian regime cannot prevail without accountability and achieving justice and equity for victims.
He added that the State of Qatar welcomed the decision adopted by the UN General Assembly to establish an independent body to clarify fate of missing persons and those who forcibly disappeared in Syria, in addition to accounting for their whereabouts and providing support to victims and their families. He pointed out that Qatar hopes that all parties would cooperate, especially the Syrian authorities with the aforementioned body as a primarily humanitarian imperative and a step to promote and build confidence, urging member states in the UN Security Council to renew a mechanism of delivering aid across the border into northwest Syria for one year to ensure better planning and response to the needs on the ground and help over 4 million people, who depend on humanitarian aid, provide their essential needs.
