HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar handed HE the Director-General of the WTO Roberto a written message from HE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani pertaining to the relations between the State of Qatar and the WTO and ways of supporting and developing them.

The State of Qatar reaffirmed at the HRC its commitment to promoting and protecting human rights in the Sudan, based on its firm belief that the brotherly Sudanese people deserve sustainable peace, stability and development

HE underlined that the current session of the Human Rights Council came two years after the blockade and the unilateral coercive and discriminatory measures imposed by some countries of the region on the State of Qatar and its citizens since June 5, 2017, calling on Human Rights Council and its relevant mechanisms to act effectively and take the necessary action to stop human rights violations resulting from these measures and hold those responsible accountable.

The State of Qatar stressed the importance of maintaining the HRC item 7 as a main component of the work of the council, due to the role it plays in highlighting the crimes and human rights violations made by the world's last occupying country.

The State of Qatar stressed the importance of providing protection to Syrian civilians, establishing the ceasefire in Idlib and engaging seriously in the political process in accordance with the relevant UN resolutions.

The State of Qatar affirms that legislative, administrative and other appropriate measures have been taken to implement the rights guaranteed by the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women.

The State of Qatar’s reprsentative noted that Qatar's foreign assistance for the period from 2013 to 2017 amounted to QR23 billion ($6.3 billion) and included more than 140 countries in partnership with the United Nations and many international and regional organizations, thus becoming the seventh major donor to OCHA. He also noted that the State of Qatar will chair the OCHA Donor Support Group next year.

Qatar’s representative added that the State of Qatar has been keen on empowering women by paying attention to their issues within the framework of the national development programs, building their capacities and providing them with full opportunity to contribute effectively to the comprehensive renaissance of the country.

The State of Qatar affirmed having taken note of the report of the Special Rapporteur on extrajudicial, summary or arbitrary executions submitted to the Council in document entitled "Investigation into the unlawful death of Mr. Jamal Khashoggi" and its annex, adding that Qatar reiterates its support for the recommendations contained in the documents, and stresses the importance of protecting journalists from all violations of their rights, primarily the right to life, physical integrity and the right to freedom of opinion and expression.
